Open Gardens – June 2018
June 24 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Three of our members will open their gardens in support of St. Francis Hospice, Raheny on Sunday 24th June 2018. You are welcome to visit between 2pm – 5pm. Directions to gardens will be emailed directly to members on the week of the event.
-Ardán, Howth is a well known favourite, with Naula’s themed herbaceous borders looking at their best right now. There is also interest in the rock garden, woodland garden, Conall’s vegetable garden and much much more. Many of the plants at our plant sales come from Ardán, so keep an eye out for favourites!
-Blakeney, Howth is new to the Horticultural Society, and was created 3 years ago in the spring of 2015 with the removal of around 20 small trees and 100 feet Rhododendrons. In spite of the challenge of dry soil and a shady disposition there are over 300 species of plant flowering from February through to November. It has a little bit of everything, lovely borders, a pond and sculptural trees! Parking is best in the Summit carpark, just a few minutes walk away.
–Cush Lodge, Sutton. Focus this time ’round is on a domestic rather than a show garden and what’s on view is indeed a common-or-garden garden – modest in size and “neat” in presentation. Its “wow!” factor, if it has one, is its extended garden as viewed from a mezzanine reading room. We’re hopeful that visitors won’t be shy in coming forward with horticultural suggestions – indeed members of the Horticultural Society visited Cush Lodge last Summer to suggest changes, and many of these changes have been made, so it will be interesting for us!
Howth and Sutton Horticultural Society is very grateful to our members who are opening their gardens for our pleasure this month.
